Material Selection for Industrial Piping Systems

Since industrial piping systems are designed to transport various liquid and gas fluids, material selection can be made based on the following factors of the fluid being transported:

  • Type of fluid,
  • Inlet and outlet pressure,
  • Flow rate,
  • Flow temperature.

Based on these factors, the material can vary. Depending on pressure and temperature values, in a HEP or dam structure, materials such as carbon steel or stainless steel can be used. For thermal power plants or food facilities, materials such as CTP, HDPE, or PTFE plastic-based materials, or fiberglass-reinforced plastics may be selected.

Accessories for Industrial Piping Systems

Industrial piping systems used in HEP and dam structures include many accessories. For carbon or stainless steel industrial piping systems, two pipes are typically welded together. However, for plastic-based materials such as CTP, HDPE, or PTFE, suitable clamps, sleeves (flexible steel sleeves, mechanical steel sleeves), hand-made joints, and seals (commonly elastomer or nitrile-based O-rings) are used to ensure the sealing of the industrial piping system, ensuring that the pipelines are ready for operation and delivered in good working condition.
