Classification of Hydraulic and Mechanical Lifting Equipment
Hydraulic and mechanical lifting equipment can generally be divided into two categories: hydraulic and mechanical. When we refer to hydraulic lifting equipment, we mean equipment such as gates, valves, and Grating Cleaning Machines that are moved vertically with the help of a fluid (oil) in the system. A hydraulic cylinder and unit are placed on the equipment, and by displacing the fluid in the system according to the position provided by the operator, the opening or closing of gates, valves, and Grating Cleaning Machines is achieved. Of course, this movement is powered by electricity from the control panel. The panel includes buttons that allow for local control of the system, but the most important feature of hydraulic lifting equipment is its ability to be controlled remotely via SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems and PLC control, which allows for the management of HPP and dam equipment from the central station. With this method, the operator does not need to physically go to the equipment, which would otherwise cause great difficulties due to the extreme environmental conditions, time loss during operator transfer, and hinder quick intervention in emergencies.
The disadvantages of hydraulic lifting equipment include the high initial installation cost. However, with regular and proper maintenance, inspection, and checks, planned maintenance costs can be significantly reduced, making it a system that will always be preferred in the long term.

Mechanical lifting equipment refers to equipment such as gates, valves, and Grating Cleaning Machines, which are moved vertically with the help of an electric motor in the system. Mechanical lifting equipment is economically advantageous due to its low initial investment cost. It includes an electric panel, electric motor, and a gear box, along with a vertical lifting shaft that is positioned at a 90° angle with the infinite gear in the gear box. The system also contains hydraulic oil that ensures fluidity. It is vital to regularly check, maintain, and replace this oil, as used oil loses its function and can cause system malfunctions if not replaced. If the oil’s degradation combines with other faulty parameters, it may lead to the breakdown of the system, requiring disassembly and repair in factory conditions or the addition of new equipment.
